Season 7, Episode 4 – A Review of Graveyard Mind by Chadwick Ginther

reviews Graveyard Mind, the latest by
author Chadwick Ginther. Here is a brief synopsis of the book from the back

Winnipeg’s underworld, every mortician is on the take and every revenant of
myth waits to claw their way out of their tombs. The dead stay in the ground
because of Winter Murray, a necromancer of the Compact. A victim of abduction
and a criminal herself, Winter stalks Winnipeg’s Graveside, preventing larger,
more heinous crimes from spilling over into the lives of the Sunsiders, no
matter what laws of gods and men she must break to do so. Winter is a chimera,
sharing the genetic material of her own never-born fraternal twin sister. Her
dead twin’s essence provides her a link to the Kingdom―the land of the dead―and
a tie to a past she’s run from for thirteen years. Winter struggles to find a
redemption she doesn’t believe she deserves. The temptation of dirty deeds is
everywhere: An animated skeleton with a penchant for wearing dead men’s clothes
wants her on his payroll. Her deceased, but not gone mentor, still pushes her
to take the easy way by being hard. A composite man assembled from soldiers who
still puts boot to ass when Winter demands. A vampire that wants just a taste.
Each pulls at Winter ensuring a normal life remains eternally out of reach, and
the easy way is anything but.”

Season 6, Episode 29 – Warners and Sony have
a Beef with Apple and Google
Warner Bros
and Sony distribute their digital movie copies through Ultraviolet and Flixter,
but Ultraviolet has decided to shut their doors. If you’ve bought a digital
copy of a Warner Bros or Sony film, you may be out of luck and have to rebuy
the movie.

Seanorama is
livid as he and FastFretFingers discuss why Warner Bros and Sony do not
distribute digital copies through Google or Apple, why “digital copy” is a
misnomer, how the “digital revolution” is a step back instead of a step forward,
and how we as consumers can work through the hurdles the studios throw at us.

There will be
a follow-up to this episode as Warner Bros has been in touch with Seanorama
over his frustration with the digital copy process. Stay tuned and learn how he
may in fact save his digital collection.

Season 6, Episode 27 – Who Watches No-Touch Devices?

The brothers
discuss the advent of battery run devices such as clocks and their move into
no-touch devices, such as in washrooms (faucets, soap dispensers, auto-flush
toilets), locks on lockers and safes, and how this advance in society has moved
forward without the ability to maintain it. What happens when the batteries die
and who looks after changing them?

Season 6, Episode 26 – Note For Note

Seanorama and
FastFretFingers debate what constitutes great live music: do you like music
that matches the album note for note, or do you prefer music that changes the
songs. From improvisational jams, beat changes, different intros and outros,
some bands change nothing from their album while others never play the same
song the same way twice. Radio edits are changes to song that soften songs for
radio: When Creep by Radiohead was changed for radio, one word completely
altered what the song was about. Some bands like Gwar need to adjust their
songs live because of their show. What does chemistry lie in bands that are in
tune and able to improvise and change their songs live on a whim?

They use the
examples of Confuschia, Motley Crue, Led Zeppelin, 16 Horsepower, Kiss, Red Hot
Chili Peppers, Radiohead, Gwar, Reverend Horton Heat, and the Tragically Hip.

on here? The brothers discuss all of this in detail, including their theories

Season 6, Episode 24 – Captain Marvel’s End Game at the Umbrella Academy

Sunday, 17 March 2019

James Gunn is back. Let's all learn a lesson from this --- from Seanorama

James Gunn is back with Disney/Marvel.

I never would have predicted this would have happened. To be honest, things like this don’t happen in our day and age. James Gunn said some reprehensible things back in the day. It was meant to be shocking and controversial. And it fell flat.

I have known many people--- in fact, most people I know--- that have said something controversial or offensive in their lifetime. In fact, if someone hasn’t said something controversial or offensive at some point in their life, I don’t trust them. Wisdom comes with age. It is not inherited.

The truth of the matter is, we don’t end up fully formed out of the egg. Regardless of how well we are raised, or sometimes because of how well we are raised, we all say something asinine or stupid, something that gets someone’s dander up, something that deeply offends somebody else.

We all begin ignorant. Every one of us. No exceptions. It is through life we learn to be better people. It’s inherent in the word itself: better. Better is about the journey, not the destination. We all learn from making mistakes. The best lessons are learned from mistakes. We are not perfect, and we never will be.

If we step wrong, and are ignorant to how someone feels, and we say something that hurts them, it is from that lesson that we learn to be better. Apology humbles us. In fact, we are far more likely to try harder to be better because we have failed, or hurt someone, because we now understand what we have done.

The character assassination attempt of James Gunn was meant to destroy him. But it also destroyed all those around him: the family he built, the people he employed, the people he gave careers too. There were a lot of people that owe a lot to Gunn, that still work because of Gunn, because he believed in them. It was also defamation of the company he worked for, strong-arming them to fire James Gunn to save face. Character assassination may target one, but it always hurts everyone around him.

James Gunn apologized. He never denied what he said. He tried to be a better person. He tried to learn from what he did. And it shows in the outpouring of support for him. It shows in the care he put into his cast, his crew and his association with the studio. The story he told in Guardians of the Galaxy was of a bunch of jerks who learn to be better. That, we may all be freaks, but we can be better than who we were, to who we can become. It is a journey towards redemption.

We all must apologize for what we say when it hurts someone. We can be better. We can be empathetic. We can--- care.

And to those that attempted to character assassinate James Gunn, what happens to them? Should we take the high road, or should we force them to apologize for what they did? Was what they did, done with malicious intent? Should they be forgiven? Well, let’s see if they apologize. I am still waiting for that headline. Let’s hope they find the exit to the road to redemption.

Season 6, Episode 21 – A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Lounge

Last week I
was lucky enough to be invited to a private show (thanks to Sam from
Witchpolice Radio). Almost as entertaining as the show itself (which will be
covered in a later episode) was getting to the show. I planned to be there 30
minutes before show time and got there 15-20 minutes after showtime. What the
hell happened? Well let us tell you…

The brothers
also talk about more changes to the studio that FastFretFingers has made,
getting into the technical side of things, including codpasts (?), portable
studios (shout out to James Beaver), and microphones.

Season 6, Episode 18 – Where is all your tax dollars going?

To quote the
brothers of the D, the government totally
Seanorama and FastFretFingers discuss your tax dollars and all of
the various ways the government collects it, coffers it and mismanages it. Why
is there never any money left and why do they keep creating new revenue streams
to drain your wallet? Alcohol, fuel, income tax, GST, PST, RST (the woman tax),
photo radar, casinos, marijuana… the list goes on and they keep sucking us dry
while they somehow run out of money.

On the other
side of the coin the brothers discuss tax rates and the level of happiness of
other countries. What are the top 11 countries (why 11, because top 10 lists
are passé) in terms of happiness and how do their
tax levels determine their happiness?

A hint of
what is coming next, keep your ears peeled for the next episode where we have a
very special guest, someone I have wanted to have on the Podcast for some time.
Who will it be?

Seanorama from the SeanGeek Podcast

I have rarely felt so energized.

I just finished editing two long episodes of the podcast, both of which featured my bro by blood Todd (also known as FastFretFingers on the show) and my other bro, not by blood, but by sweat and tears, Corey Toews. We had decided to do these episodes once a month or so and they have been so much fun that afterwards I feel like I am riding on this buzz that takes weeks to dissipate.

And I wonder how much trouble we would get into if we had the entire cast with Voicesbytracy on hand. It would be a riotfest, no doubt.

We have so many plans coming up for this year that, under any other circumstance, would be overwhelming and scary. But because it is with these two, that all I do is look forward to each thing we are tackling.

I love doing the podcast. I really do. I have been doing this thing for so long now, that it has become comfortable, fun and one of my favourite things. And we are just getting started.

We plan to open the store this year, and offer some items everyone has been clamoring for. I can't wait for what the rest of the crew have in store. We have guests that will be coming up. We have so much going and look forward to the continued growth.

Thanks everybody for joining us on this ride.

We'll see on the next 'cast.
